Getting there
To kick off our weekend trip to the captivating Blue Mountains, we began at the scenic Wentworth Falls Picnic Area, conveniently located just 1.5 hours' drive west of Sydney.
While we strongly recommend taking your car for this itinerary, for those who'd prefer to opt for public transport, fear not as Wentworth Falls, Leura, and Katoomba all boast train stations with direct services from Sydney. To navigate the region and visit its major attractions, the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus service is highly recommended, allowing you to hop on and hop off at various stops. However, it's important to note that while the Explorer Bus provides easy access to the main attractions, reaching the stunning lookouts may require longer walks from the bus stops. You can book your Blue Mountains Explorer Bus tickets via the link below:
Day 1: Stop #1 - Wentworth Falls
To kick off our day, we embarked on the breathtaking Wentworth Falls circuit, exploring the region's most spectacular lookouts. This scenic walk offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and awe-inspiring vistas. For your convenience, we have included an AllTrails Map of the walk below, along with some key facts. Keep in mind that this walk is a Grade 4 walk being very steep in some places and with many steps.

The sheer power and beauty of Wentworth Falls create an awe-inspiring spectacle that leaves an indelible mark on all who witness it. Stand on one of the nearby viewing platforms, breathe in the misty air, and feel the invigorating energy of the falls.
- Weeping Rock Circuit: Next on the walk is the Weeping Rock Circuit, a captivating walking trail that winds its way through ancient rainforests and showcases the unique flora and fauna of the region. As you traverse this picturesque path, encounter the mesmerizing sight of water droplets cascading down the moss-covered rocks, creating a captivating symphony of nature. The circuit offers a refreshing escape into the heart of Wentworth Falls' natural wonders.
- Wentworth Falls Lookout: Conclude your walk at the Wentworth Falls Lookout, a vantage point that offers a bird's-eye view of the cascading waters and the surrounding landscapes. From here, marvel at the diverse ecosystem that thrives in this picturesque corner of the Blue Mountains. Day 1: Stop #2 - Leura Cascades
After a delightful picnic lunch at the Wentworth Falls Picnic Area, we planned to visit the renowned Leura Cascades, affectionately known by locals as Bridal Veil Falls. However, when we checked the NSW National Parks' website earlier that day, we found out that this spectacular waterfall, nestled in the charming town of Leura, was temporarily closed due to flood damage. Due to this, we had decided to check into our hotel after lunch and headed for the same.
Nevertheless, if the walk to Leura Cascades is open during your visit, we strongly recommend seizing the opportunity to explore this enchanting destination. Below, we have provided an AllTrails Map and essential information about the walk, so you can be prepared for a truly unforgettable experience at Leura Cascades.

Day 1: Last Stop - Hargraves Lookout
Our last stop for the day was Hargraves Lookout, a stunning vantage point located in Blackheath, for a truly mesmerising sunset experience. The view seen from this lookout includes culturally significant places including valleys, waterways, mountains and the surrounding sky!
Please note that the last 2.5 kilometres of Shipley Road leading to Hargraves Lookout is an unsealed road, however we didn't have any problems navigating it with our 2WD.
What sets Hargraves Lookout apart from others is its unique feature of offering two distinct views: one side showcasing the captivating Australian landscape with rugged sandstone cliffs and the other side depicting green fields reminiscent of the New Zealand landscape! It's an extraordinary experience to stand in one spot and witness the distinct beauty of the contrasting views on either side of the lookout. After basking in the mesmerizing hues of a spectacular sunset from the lookout, we made our way back to the hotel, ready to retire for a peaceful and restful night's sleep.
Day 2: Stop #1 - Sublime Point Lookout
After breakfast, we headed to Sublime Point Lookout, an iconic vantage point in Leura that offers breathtaking views of the Jamison Valley, with the Three Sisters rock formation in the distance. The lookout is accessible via a short 10-15min medium grade walk (175m, one-way, steep uphill return) from the carpark.
As the name suggests, Sublime Point Lookout offers a truly sublime experience for visitors exploring the Blue Mountains. The lookout itself is perched on a sandstone escarpment, providing an elevated perspective of the vast valley and the surrounding eucalyptus forests. The views are particularly magical during sunrise and sunset, when the changing colors of the sky paint a stunning backdrop for the dramatic landscape. Please note that Sublime Point Lookout is also a starting point for several hiking trails, allowing visitors to further explore the natural wonders of the region.
Day 2: Stop #2 - Scenic World
Our next stop was Scenic World, an iconic attraction in the Blue Mountains that offers extraordinary experiences. Plentiful free undercover parking is available in their multi storey carpark on site.
Our first stop was the Scenic Skyway, an exhilarating glass-bottomed gondola that took us on a suspended journey across the awe-inspiring Jamison Valley. The Skyway provided a unique perspective, allowing us to admire the steep cliffs, deep canyons, and the majestic Katoomba Falls cascading down into the valley below. On the day of our visit, we discovered that the Scenic Skyway journeyed only halfway from the base station, treating us to breathtaking views of the Jamison Valley and the mesmerizing Katoomba Falls. However, if the Skyway extends to the East Station during your visit, we highly recommend disembarking at the East Station to seize the opportunity to visit Echo Point Lookout. This short walk (1km, one-way) offers a closer look at the iconic Three Sisters rock formation and is an experience you won't want to miss. After exploring Echo Point Lookout, make your way back to the East Station on foot and then hop on the Skyway for a picturesque return to the base station.
Next on our adventure was the renowned Scenic Railway, the steepest passenger railway in the world. Boarding the historic train, we eagerly descended into the depths of the Jamison Valley. We could feel the adrenaline pumping as the train navigated the steep incline, providing us with unparalleled views of the surrounding landscapes. It was a heart-pounding experience that truly showcased the raw power and beauty of the Blue Mountains!
Following our thrilling descent on the Scenic Railway, we ventured onto the Scenic Walkway, a serene and immersive 500-meter elevated boardwalk. This tranquil pathway, spanning between the Railway and Cableway stations, takes around 10-20 minutes and offers a leisurely stroll through the enchanting heart of the rainforest.
Note: The Scenic Walkway extends beyond the initial 500-meter boardwalk, offering a much more expansive experience. With a total length of 2.4 kilometers, this captivating circuit can be conveniently embarked upon and concluded at either the Railway or Cableway stations. It provides visitors with the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding rainforest, allowing for a leisurely exploration of the mesmerizing sights and sounds at their preferred pace. If time permits, we highly recommend taking the full circuit walk to fully appreciate the diverse wonders of this remarkable rainforest setting.
We then concluded our unforgettable adventure rides at Scenic World by embarking on the Scenic Cableway for a picturesque and effortless return to the base station. As we glided above the treetops, we cherished one last breathtaking view of the landscapes that had captivated us throughout our Scenic World experience.
Day 2: Stop #3 - Katoomba Falls
After savouring a scrumptious lunch at the Scenic World café, our journey continued with a captivating walk to the mesmerizing Katoomba Falls. Don't miss the marvelous Witches Leap Falls on the return journey, an enchanting hidden gem that adds an extra touch of wonder to this unforgettable experience!
