Getting there
The drive from Sydney to Rouse Hill typically takes around 45 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Our first stop for the day was the House Down Under, which is easily accessible by both car and public transportation. Please note that if you choose to visit Rouse Hill Estate and Rouse Hill Regional Park by public transport, it's important to be aware that there may be a significant walking distance from the nearest train or bus stops to reach these destinations.
Stop #1 - House Down Under: An Upside-Down Enchantment!
Step into a world of illusion and wonder at House Down Under, Australia's first inverted house photo experience. Located near the Rouse Hill Shopping Centre, this unique attraction offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to defy gravity and capture captivating photos in an inverted setting! The carefully designed interior creates mind-bending illusions, allowing you to take photographs that will leave your friends and family amazed. From walking on the ceiling to defying gravity in imaginative poses, House Down Under offers an exciting and interactive experience for all ages.
You'll find more details about the attraction's features and ticketing information on their website. After checking in at the ticket office, once you step inside the inverted house, you'll notice that the staff is readily available to accompany you and capture photos of your experience. This added service proves to be quite convenient. We recommend planning your visit to House Down Under in the morning when it's typically less crowded. This way, you can relish a longer and more uninterrupted session inside the house. We had the entire house to ourselves, for nearly an hour! The place tends to get busier after lunch and into the afternoon.

Stop #2 - Embracing History and Fun at Rouse Hill Estate
After our intriguing morning adventure, we made our way to the renowned Rouse Hill Estate. Managed by MHNSW (Museums of History New South Wales), this heritage gem offers a perfect blend of history and entertainment, making it an ideal destination for families seeking both education and enjoyment.
Upon arrival, we spent half an hour at the visitor centre, where the kids excitedly engaged in the LEGO Room, while we familiarized ourselves with the estate's captivating history. The Visitor Centre offers helpful guides, maps, and interesting background information about the estate. The LEGO Room located within the Visitor Centre is truly a Kid's Haven! This enchanting room is a hit with kids, offering them a chance to unleash their creativity and build their very own historical structures with LEGO bricks. As children immerse themselves in imaginative play, the past comes alive in their hands, making history not just educational but also incredibly fun.
Afterwards, we had our picnic lunch on the estate's picturesque grounds, that let us soak in the serene ambiance while savouring our meal. Following our leisurely lunch, we embarked on the free self-guided tour of the estate for a journey through time as we explored the various remnants of the estate. The schoolhouse, barn, and other structures evoked a sense of nostalgia, offering a glimpse into the lives of the early settlers. Each section of the estate held a wealth of stories, providing a unique window into colonial life in Australia. Along the way, we encountered friendly horses, sheep, and cows, further enhancing our connection to the rural charm of Rouse Hill Estate.
As we explored the estate, we found knowledgeable guides stationed at various places of interest. These passionate experts were very eager to share the significance and history of each location, enriching our experience with fascinating anecdotes and insights. Their presence definitely added a personal touch, ensuring that we gained a deeper understanding of the estate's cultural heritage! We ended up easily spending a couple of hours at the estate.
Rouse Hill Estate is an ideal destination for school excursions, providing an immersive and educational experience for students of all ages. The estate's immersive setting offers a valuable learning opportunity, allowing students to step into the shoes of early settlers and learn about their daily lives. The interactive nature of the self-guided tour, along with the presence of friendly rangers and the LEGO Room, makes the visit engaging and enriching for young minds!
Stop #3 - Rouse Hill Regional Park: A Serene Escape Amidst Nature's Embrace
Our next stop was the Rouse Hill Regional Park. Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Rouse Hill, the Rouse Hill Regional Park offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This idyllic park boasts sprawling green spaces, tranquil ponds, and a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and families alike. With ample carpark, well-maintained picnic and barbecue areas, playground, and toilet facilities, the park provides the perfect setting for a leisurely day out, immersing visitors in the beauty of the great outdoors.
After parking our car, we embarked on the Second Ponds Creek and Rouse Hill Estate Walk, a scenic and leisurely track. Provided below is an AllTrails Map of the walk as well as some key facts about it.

Please note that the starting point of the walk is not sign-posted. To begin, make your way to the playground next to the carpark; the walk commences just behind the playground. As we stepped onto the trail, an immediate sense of tranquility embraced us within the park's surroundings. Lined with lush vegetation, the pathway gently rustled with leaves in the breeze, creating a serene rhythm with each step. The melodic symphony of birdsong deepened our connection with nature, providing a soothing backdrop for our walk.
Meandering gracefully alongside a meadow, the Second Ponds Creek walk unveiled captivating vistas of the meandering creek. Its shimmering waters mirrored the surrounding beauty, offering enchanting moments that demanded to be captured. The sight of ducks and other waterfowl gracefully gliding through the creek added a touch of magic to our exploration, particularly to the delight of the kids. The walk then continued its course along the historic Rouse Hill Estate before eventually concluding back at the carpark. Please be aware that the walk does not include entry to the Rouse Hill Estate itself.
In its entirety, the walk provided us with a unique window into the heritage and natural splendor of Rouse Hill. This journey allowed us to recognize the harmonious coexistence of past and present within the embrace of the Regional Park! Lastly, if the 2km walk seems a bit much, you can opt for either the Second Ponds Creek walk or the Rouse Hill Estate Walk, tailoring your experience to your preferences and energy level. Eventually, we discovered that the hilly area along the Rouse Hill Estate Walk within Rouse Hill Regional Park is a favored spot for wedding, bridal, and maternity photo shoots. During our stroll, we observed a few brides and expectant mothers posing for professional photos, highlighting the area's popularity for capturing these special life moments. So, don't miss the Rouse Hill Estate Walk for a unique and picturesque experience!
