Getting there
Getting to Kangaroo Island is an adventure in itself! The most common way to reach the island is by taking the SeaLink Ferry from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw, a 45-minute journey across Backstairs Passage. The ferry accommodates both passengers and vehicles, making it easy to bring your own car for island exploration. Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak seasons and school holidays, as spots fill up quickly.
If you prefer to skip the ferry, you can fly with Rex Airlines from Adelaide to Kingscote Airport, a quick 30-minute flight. Car hire is available at the airport, so you can start exploring right away. However, availability is limited, so it’s best to book your rental vehicle in advance.
Regardless of how you arrive, make sure to plan ahead — Kangaroo Island is best explored by car, and fuel stations are limited in remote areas, so always keep an eye on your fuel levels. Whether you sail or fly, an unforgettable island adventure awaits!
